Its official, Trump has selected perhaps one of the nastiest human beings to be his Energy Secretary. Former Texas Governor Rick Perry, who while running for President made clear that he would eliminate the Energy Department, know has been chosen to lead it. This makes the head of the EPA and Energy people who have publicly made clear they want to eliminate these departments.
We must fight back and fight hard!
It comes as no surprise, the man with no soul has chosen a woman equally devoid to run the Interior Department and the more than 500 million acres it protects. The selection of Cathy McMorris-Rodger's, a congressman who has voted to sell off public lands, drill in the Arctic and fight basic environmental regulations is another act of war by President-elect Trump against the environment. Her lifetime environmental voting record scored by the League of Conservation Voters is 4%.
Trump's choice to head EPA will clearly face a backlash among democrats. Yet, Pruitt is a man whose entire political career has been financed by the oil and gas industry. It is Pruitt that has used "state autonomy" as a rational to allow fossil fuel companies to destroy air and water quality. Yet, he is the same Attorney General that has fought the idea that individual states can decriminalize marijuana. In other words, destroying the environment- that is a state issue, not federal. Marijuana, states have no say, the federal government controls. Once again we see the hypocrisy that radiates from Republican so-called Federalists, that decry Washington, until it supports their from of moral authority. In this case, they see no connection between a clean healthy environment and their moral responsibility.
Congress must filibuster this nomination!
President-elect Trump has made it official, selecting Fossil-Fuel lover, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to run the Environmental Protection Agency.
Pruitt has long been a vocal critic of EPA regulations and a strong defender of the fossil-fuel industry. Pruitt even sent a letter penned by Devon Energy, one of Oklahoma's largest oil and gas producers to the EPA critical of estimates on emissions from natural gas drilling sites.
The connection between Pruitt and the oil industry has been described as unprecedented and dangerous. It seems according to the NY Times to be part of a pattern of of Republican Attorneys Generals across the country.
Trump's goal is to replicate what has occurred in now earthquake prone Oklahoma, where regulations on the oil industry have been stripped away and protections for communities and citizens abolished.
